Sri Lanka Round Tour

Day 01: Airport – Negombo

Meet and assist on arrival at airport by VSL representative and transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to a beach hotel in Negombo, visit a fishing village or at leisure in the beach.

Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Negombo.

Day 02: Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage – Elephant Back Safari

After breakfast leave for Trincomalee. En-route, visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.

Visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage which is a nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants. It is one of the popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka and notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. If you time your visit right, you may even get to witness bathing and bottle feeding of baby jumbos at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.

Then travel to Trinco.

Day 03,04,05: Pigeon Island – Koneswaram Kovil – Leisure at Trinco & Pasikudah Beach

Trincomalee is one of the oldest cities in Asia and it has served as a major maritime seaport in the international trading history of the Sri Lanka with South East Asia. Trincomalee has some of the most picturesque and scenic beaches found in Sri Lanka, relatively unspoilt and clean for bathing and swimming. Enjoy free days sunbathing on the unspoilt and clean beach of Trinco. There are many things to do and see including The Dutch Fort and harbour, the Hindu historical site of the Koneswaram Kovil, Lover’s Leap, Trincomalee war cemetery and hot wells.

Day 06: Ancient City of Anuradhapura – Minneriya National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Anuradhapura. The whole site is studded with vast expanses of monastic sites. Visit Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest historically documented tree in the world, the Brazen Palace, Pagodas, Ruwanwelisaya, Abeygiri & Jetawana Monasteries, finely preserved rock-cut statues Lord Buddha and ruins of palaces, Isurumuniya rock temple. The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries.

In the evening take a jeep safari through the Minneriya National Park, looking for elephants, deer, peacocks, boars, and many kinds of birds.

Day 07: Sigiriya Rock Fortress – Polonnaruwa Cultural Site

Breakfast at the hotel and leave for climbing the Sigiriya rock fortress.

Sigiriya is a rock fortress nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high and an ancient palace built by King Kashyapa. Learn about ancient Ceylon’s turbulent past. Begin the morning by mounting the rock fortress of Sigiriya; the 5th century “Fortress in the Sky” & one of the Sri Lanka’s most fascinating UNESCO World Heritage sites. En-route you will have an elephant back safari.

Then, continue to one of the better-kept ruins of ancient Ceylon – the UNESCO World Heritage city of Polonnaruwa, which was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th – 13th century AD. The colossal works of art and architecture, both Buddhist and Hindu, including stupendous image shrines like Lankatilaka, Tivanka Patimaghara and Parakrama Samudra, the stone carved Buddha icons of the Galvihara attract thousands of connoisseurs all year around. Visitors to Polonnaruwa would no doubt enjoy the museum and visitor centre, which has gained great international repute.

Day 08: Dambulla Cave Temple –Temple of the Tooth Relic

After breakfast check-out from the hotel and leave for Kandy. En-route visit Dambulla Cave temple.

The cave shrines of Dambulla being one of the largest cave shrines of South Asia, the five caves cover more than 2000sq.meters of paintings of the late medieval style popularly known as Kandyan art. The exhausting hill climb of the visitors will be richly rewarded by a visit to the newly established museum of paintings. Then travel to Kandy .En-route visit a spice garden to see different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for.

The historic city of Kandy was the last capital of Sri Lanka, located in the valley surrounded by forested hills and partly by the meandering river Mahaveli and, is visited by visitors and pilgrims of the Buddhist world to admire and worship the Sacred Tooth Relic shrine. The city, with its beauty enhanced by the artificial lake, the royal palace complex, four-shrines Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini & the two famous monastic complexes of Malvatta and Asgiriya Viharas.

Day 09: Botanical Garden – Cultural Dance Performance

Breakfast at the hotel and travel to visit the Royal Botanical Garden Peradeniya. Peradeniya is home to a large variety of ornamental plants and other creepers that are used to produce the special spices of Sri Lanka. There is a flourishing growth of huge tropical trees along the lawns and the orchid house is the prime attraction of this garden.

Kandy is also well known as the centre of Buddhism. At your convenience become acquainted with the city of Kandy; pay your respect to the Temple of the Tooth Relic and late evening view a cultural dance performance.

Day 10: Tea Plantation & Factory – Ramboda Waterfall– White Water Rafting & Canoeing – Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Along the way, you may visit Ramboda waterfall and Labookellie tea estate. Spend the day touring around Nuwara Eliya; a city in the hill country with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. The town’s attractions include the golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park and boating in Lake Gregory. Play golf at Nuwara Eliya Golf Club and explore the former colonial hill country town surrounding many tea estates and waterfalls.

Then travel to Kitulgala and you will have a white water rafting. The Kelani River in Kitulgala offers excellent rapids for your ideal white water rafting experience. This picturesque river specializes in grade 1-4 rapids and rafters can battle their way through the waters, indulging in the adventure of a lifetime.

Day 11: Horton Plains – Hakgala Botanical Garden

After earlier breakfast, travel just outside the town of Nuwara Eliya to the National Park of Horton Plains. Take a slow and steady hike which also features Baker’s waterfall. Stroll along the grassy flatlands of Horton Plains and hike up to Worlds End, a steep drop showcasing a spectacular view. The latter are best seen in the high, open area surrounding Horton Plains, where they gather in the crisp evenings to feed on the long grasses.

Hakgala Botanical Garden is located within the Hakgala Strict Natural Reserve. It sprawls up the steep hillside, ranging from the anodyne ornamental areas around the entrance to the far wider & more interesting forests up the hills. The garden of roses, shrubs, ferns & montane woodland are delightfully located in salubrious environment, with small streams running across & wooden bridges built over them with birds flying all over.

Day 12: Colombo

Breakfast at the hotel and leave for Colombo.And rest of the day spends exploring the capital city of Colombo in the afternoon. A guided sightseeing tour around Colombo shows you local market of Pettah, various temples, mosques and much more which takes 3 to 4 hours usually.

Day 13: Colombo City

After breakfast visit Colombo.

Colombo the capital of Sri Lanka is the largest city and the main port. It is full of popular tourist attractions and many places to do last minute shopping. Colombo’s attractions include the Courtyard, Gangarama Seema Malakaya, National Museum, Independence Square and many more…

The Gangaramaya temple complex with its imposing buildings with Buddhist artifacts and the Bikku Training Center is spread around the Beira Lake and also across the main road. The oldest and largest museum in the country which is built in 1877 is best known for the collection of antiques and objects of art.
